Syndrome Differentiation of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Mars 500 Long Term Closed Environment

Purpose of the study

To obtain the data of constitution differentiation and syndrome differentiation by zang-fu viscera of human experiencing 520 days closed environment, and to reveal the characteristics and change rules of the integrative functional status of human body at different stages. To provide new medical support methods for long duration manned spaceflight.

Tasks

a. Under the guidance of TCM theory, basic information of subjects involving self-sensation, symptoms and signs, typical tongue manifestation and pulse manifestation of TCM will be collected by four diagnostic methods of inspection, listening and smelling, inquiry, palpation and pulse taking;
• To obtain the information by using the grading scale of symptoms of basic TCM syndrome;
• Analyzing the digital image of face manifestation;
• Analyzing the digital image of tongue manifestation, including tongue color, character of fur, quality of the tongue, fur color;
• Using automatic pressurization technique to touch, press and search the pulse to obtain pulse manifestation, then analyzing the types of pulse manifestations (there are over 20 kinds) and relative parameters, including their location, frequency, shape, impetus, rhythm, power.

b. On the basis of analyzing, synthesizing and differentiating the entire attribute of vital movement of human body, the status of vital movement of human body will be studied at different stages in the long-term closed cabin. The characteristics and change rules of the integrative functional status of TCM syndrome will be elucidated;
• According to the holographic visceral manifestation theory of TCM, the theory of TCM diagnostics holds that the local includes the information of integral, that is, the function and attribute of human organs can be reflected in a certain corresponding local manifestation. For example, the information of five viscera and six hollow organs can be reflected on cunkou and face, and can be reflected on tongue manifestation through meridians. The TCM diagnostic methods which have distinctive meaning, such as complexion inspection, tongue inspection and pulse taking, were formed by using holographic theory of recognize the whole through the observation of the part;
• The equipment can carry out constitution identification and syndrome differentiation by colleting the objective information of tongue, face, pulse, symptoms and so on by four diagnostic methods of inspection, listening and smelling, inquiry, palpation and pulse taking. The integrative and visceral functional change and the disease information of human body will be judged comprehensively by the change of typical face manifestation, tongue manifestation, and pulse manifestation of TCM combining with the results of the inquiry.

Significance

It combines TCM with space medicine and the theories of traditional application branches of TCM, such as system theory of TCM, psychosomatic disease medicine of TCM, somnus medicine of TCM, constitutional science of TCM, will used to explore the basic TCM pathogenesis of the integrative functional status of human body at different stages in long-term closed environment. The prevention and treatment principles at different stages will be proposed. It will provid new thinking and method for studying medical support in long term manned spaceflight.
